As a minority and a first-generation student, I started my journey without the resources that were needed to succeed in competitive STEM environments such as the one at UCLA. The onset of the pandemic only made it more difficult to determine who I could seek advice from and where I could get the guidance I needed to grow under these conditions. I started the Pre-Med Community at UCLA with my co-founder to provide other students who had similar struggles with the assurance and support they needed to prosper during their pre-med careers. Shortly after establishing this club, I realized it was one of the best things I had done as an undergraduate. Hundreds of our members have stated that it helped them establish a sense of community and get access to resources. I am incredibly proud to have been a founding president of this club and to have led such a fantastic board. I know that together we have helped hundreds of pre-meds move beyond cultural and socioeconomic boundaries to assist their goals of getting into medical school.
