As an international student who has been living in a foreign country on my own, I deeply recognize the importance of having a good mentor in one’s life. I believe that a good mentorship experience should be mutually beneficial. The mentee, of course, can learn a lot by being exposed to the various experiences and opportunities that the mentor provides. The mentor, on the other hand, can also learn how to communicate and educate others in a more specific way. Just like how physicians ultimately teach and guide their patients through their treatments and recoveries, being a mentor to someone allows us to be pre-exposed to different situations that require us to challenge ourselves and to think from the other’s perspectives. I would love to share what I have learned in my life with others, and I can’t wait to learn from everyone else in this community. I am very excited to be the mentorship program co-coordinator of PMC this year, and I believe that the program can only be better with all the guidance and support from the other board members as well as participants. I believe that this program functions as a bridge that connects fellow pre-med/med students and provides us an amazing platform to develop into a better version of ourselves.
